The Virgin of castle Rhodos
It is the Byzantine Cathedral church of Rhodos Aegean island Greece
It is dated its architecture and by its archeological finds to the 11th century

Fragmentary frescoes are preserved most notable in the figure of Sain Lucia which painted in the western style and the figure of Madonna holding baby Jesus and pairs of saints

In the ottoman period 1523-1912 the church was turned into a mosque and was known kantouri djami
In 1940 the italien administration of Dodecanese 1912-1943 dismantled all ottoman elements in its political motivated drive to revive the hospitaller character of the town

A considerable number of coins were found inside the Foundain dating the foundation the extant church to the 11th century
