Residents of Umoja estate in Nairobi county have complained about the disposal of asbestos in their neighbourhood.
While speaking to NTV, Ken, not his real name, a resident said that asbestos roofing materials were irresponsibly dumped in his neighbourhood a month ago by unknown people. He further says that he visited NEMA and county government offices over the issue but no action has been taken yet.
He is now asking the government to take away the waste. While the government imposed a ban on asbestos in 2006 due to their link to cancer, quite a number of residential areas in Umoja presently have asbestos - roofed - houses which expose residents to health hazards.
