A Canadian-born man held in a Russian prison for nearly six years has given his first interview since being released.
Ex-U.S. Marine Paul Whelan was among 16 prisoners freed by Russia as part of the largest prisoner swap in post-Soviet history, which also included Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
Whelan was convicted of espionage in a secret trial in Russia and sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2020. He has vehemently denied that he was a spy.
As Bianca Facchinei reports, months after his release from prison he spoke about the toll it took on his mental health.
