This video is an explanation of three nervous system states based on Dr. Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory and the work of Deborah Dana. To simplify the language I call the ventral vagal state, The Centered State, the sympathetic state, The Charged State, and the dorsal vagal state, The Give-up State.
Understanding these three emotional states and how to attend to them, can help you better manage anger, frustration, fear, anxiety, disappointment and depression.
The ability to respond to and recover from the challenges of daily living is a marker of well-being and depends on the actions of the autonomic nervous system.” Deborah Dana
Watch to:
1. Understand the basic working of the nervous system.
2. Differentiate the responses of fight, defend, flee, freeze and collapse.
3. Begin noticing your impulses to become triggered by people, sounds, words, animals, and events.
4. List your personal cues before you are triggered into emotional dysregulation.
5. Identify your and others’ states of Agitated, Give Up and Awesome.
