Two connected papers came out in print today (American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate), analyzing the record-breaking March 2022 East Antarctica heat wave, including its impact on the Antarctic ice sheet. This extreme heat event saw numerous March temperature records broken, with unprecedented coastal rain and melting during winter, and temperatures 30°–40°C above average in many regions of East Antarctica.
The lead author of both papers, Dr. Jonathan Wille of ETH Zurich, discusses key findings and answers questions.
