After being stumped for weeks with a no crank no start randomly some days, I finally tracked down the issue. Some days my car would crank and start just fine and other days, nothing! Then crank and start as if nothing ever happened.
The issue was a relay located on the driver side fender wall near the fuse box. I will swap the part as soon as it arrives in the mail. Until then, wiggling the relay is saving my tail. Good thing the relay did not completely fail yet and I was able to troubleshoot with just wiggles.
Before discovering this, I tested my battery, alternator, and starter (all were fine), I replaced my starter (just because I had a new one on standby anyway), I had 3 different shops look into the issue, I changed fuses and strip fuse for glow relay, I tried to start it in neutral (NSS), I cleaned all cables and grounds, and I had the ignition switch checked, still NOTHING! No click, no crank, no nothing. My dash lights and radio worked just fine, though. I could not find a Youtube video anywhere on this so I decided to make one!
If you are also having this issue , try wiggling this relay back and forth or even using the other similar relay in it's place just to test. Once I pulled it I did notice the tips looked corroded and dark compared to the other relay.
Here is the relay information: Part number - 0015420219 (SR 9850)
Contrary to what some may think, this relay DOES control the starter (and a few other things) in earlier W123's. Hope this helps! If so, thumbs up :)
