Sorry this video is a little shaky, but it's give a fun look at what it's like to search the remote landscape for a hidden Rockhopper penguin colony, finding it on a rocky ledge. While counting penguins for the annual census, we walked along the rock runs and diddle-dee-covered hillsides to find a handful of colonies. It was always a treat to stumble across another colony and hang out with a new group of Rockies for the day.
We found 9 colonies along this stretch of the peninsula, totaling around 2000 birds. In this particular colony, there was also a single Macaroni penguin interbreeding with a Rockhopper, a not-unusual occurrence.
This video was taken on the Eagle Point Peninsula. Footage compiled in conjunction with work for the NGO, Falklands Conservation. Visit [ Ссылка ] for more info on current projects in the Falkland Islands.
