If you take a Minor Pentatonic (1-b3-4-5-b7) and raise the minor 3rd to a major 3rd, you have a Mixolydian Pentatonic (1-3-4-5-b7) à la The Allman Brothers. If you then raise the 4th of that Mixo Penta up a 1/2 step, you have a Lydian Dominant Pentatonic (1-3-#4-5-b7) which is a bit jazzier. This is great to play over a static dominant chord as it gives you a more exotic flavor of the dominant sound!
WARNING: Some notes of the Lydian Dominant Pentatonic may put your pop gig in jeopardy... Eat a peach!
