Today was an impossible day which saw an attempt to explore the western beaches from Kuta, Lombok. But with the non-stop rain making it hard to be outside and hardly any people around to talk to, I became quite frustrated.
One man on the beach I did speak to was western expat Thomas who was by himself picking up plastic in what appeared to be an almost an endless task. Thomas has been living near Selong Belanak for four years and comes to the beach each weekend to toil away.
I take lunch in a small warung near the beach and meet the owner who tells me it’s a new warung and she has only been open a week. I try her simple food of rice, chicken, fish, beens and sambal and enjoy its spiciness a lot.
Back in Kuta I meet with two expats starting a new sandwich shop and they tell me of their life here as well as taking me to their business which is still being decorated for an opening date only two weeks away.
