When Alatreon dropped into Iceborne I thought for a good while that he´s literally impossible to solo. It´s a really challenging fight that requires a lot of planning, but I have to say, Capcom did an amazing Job with this monster.
I´ve grown to love this encounter and Alatreon himself so much, from the gameplay to the sound design, throughout all the times I faced him. This guy really requires you to be strategic and I LOVE him for it. Once I learned the moveset, nothing felt unfair anymore, no shitty hitboxes, no bullshit mechanics. Escaton Judgement does really spice things up so you can´t just power through with raw damage (trust me, I tried), which makes it additionally strategic and a phantastic experience for those who are up for a good challenge.
As you can see, this is in no way a perfect run. But that´s not what it was about for me. I´m not a Speedrunner, I just enjoy challenges like these. And what a challenge I got.
That being said, I think it´s safe to say that Alatreon has become one of my favorite elder Dragons in MHW :)
And if any of you are struggling with killing Alatreon solo (and haven´t looked up a professional tutorial, or just want to see how someone who´s not perfect does it), here are some kinda unknown tips (mostly for Greatsword) to make things easier:
-focus on attacking the front legs in the first elemental Mode (Fire or Ice) since he takes more elemental damage there, then focus on the head once he shifts to Thunder Mode to make sure you get the horn break
-when Alatreon´s not enraged and flying you can often knock him out of the air with a flashpod (the timing is kinda tricky, but it can definitely help)
-the Velkhana Armor is great for this fight. Velkhana Divinity really helps getting the best out of your elemental Build
The main reason I´m uploading this is so I don´t have to worry about losing the Video of an amazing memory somehow, but maybe it might also inspire or motivate some of you to see that you really don´t have to be the perfect player with absolutely OP Decorations to do it.
If I can do it, so can you. :D
