Join Anna and Alf in this video as they visit CAERNARFON CASTLE near SNOWDONIA in NORTH WALES UK .
This castle became a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE IN 1987 and is now in the care of CADW .

In this video Anna talks about the history of this castle which was built by KING EDWARD 1 OF ENGLAND in 1283 and also of the previous castle before it .

CAERNARFON Castle was of great significance to EDWARD 1 and in 1284 he visited with his heavily pregnant Queen Eleanor , likely to ensure that his son would be born inside it's walls. When the Prince arrived he was named EDWARD OF CAERNARFON and became THE FIRST NON NATIVE PRINCE OF WALES IN 1301, later becoming EDWARD 11.

In 1969 the current KING OF ENGLAND CHARLES had his INVESTITURE HERE AT CAERNARFON CASTLE when he became PRINCE OF WALES and there is footage of him at this castle with the late QUEEN ELIZABETH his mother at that investiture.
