The open cluster NGC 188 has retained an unusual population of middle-aged stars due to an orbit which spends long periods away from the messy galactic plane. More links and info in full description ↓↓↓

The cluster is also dubbed Caldwell 1, the first entry in Patrick Moore's so-called Caldwell Catalogue of objects worth observing.
