Introducing the Training Module
An effective way to close skill gaps while making the most of your existing training investment.
And an easier way for individuals to take control over their own learning opportunities.
Let’s say that you have training material sitting in a learning management system, google drive, or sharepoint.
In Skills Base you can represent that training in the course directory by simply setting a name, and destination URL.
The next important step is adding skill based context to that training material.
We can do this by heading across to the Course mappings page.
Here you will select the course you added, map the training to a skill, and then set the knowledge achieved by completing the training.
The key here is that skill levels are not automatically updated when a course is completed.
Instead, the goal is that individuals need to demonstrate their ability by using the skill, and any skill level changes should be reflected in their next assessment.
When these two things are set up, Skills Base works its magic and will recommend training to individuals that have a skills gap.
As an Example let’s take a look at what Karen, an employee within our organization would see.
If we review her skill profile we can quickly see that she is highly competent in her role as a developer.
However, a skill gap exists for the skill solutions acquisition.
She is currently sitting at a level of 2.5, and needs to reach the target of 5.
Luckily the organization has recently invested in technical training and has created the necessary mapping in Skills Base.
If we now head across to the training tab, we can see that Skills Base has automatically recommending training that will help Karen achieve her target skill level of 5.
She can also start each course directly from this page which will take her directly to the training material.
When finished, She just has to return to Skills Base to indicate it’s complete
Training can also be manually added by Karen, or her managers which can be important when developing skills outside of her direct role.
