In a world that often celebrates extraordinary talents, it's essential to recognize that every individual possesses unique skills. These abilities, while diverse, exist in all of us. Hidden talents are abundant and it's important to both acknowledge and nurture these skills.
LYRIC: And there's absolutely nothing that you can do (well)
That's the thing about skills. They come in so many different forms, extending beyond traditional domains. Some people excel in creativity, social skills, problem-solving, empathy, or leadership. These skills are not limited to specific areas but reflect a broad spectrum of human capabilities.
I wasn't a very good tax accountant. The struggle was real for me when it came to applying legislation and case law to a client situation. I had to work really hard at that, however I broadly had excellent people skills and could do audio/visual production better than anyone at the firm. Somehow I blended these together to cobble together a decent career and business.
Discovering your hidden talents can be difficult, but it may help to follow the process of:
a. Engaging in new activities and hobbies.
b. Connecting with your passions and values.
c. Gathering insights from friends and family.
d. Then being patient with yourself and to keep learning
Your hidden talents are generally pretty fulfilling as well as they are things you probably like to do. I mean I really enjoy making these videos that not many people watch (much like when I made a horse based website my colleague good naturedly ribbed me by calling: www.thathorseracingwebsitethatnobodyknows.com.au). I much prefer these side projects over pouring over tax legislation or churning out debits and credits.
Being good at something also builds confidence and everyone possesses a unique skill or talent. Embrace those hidden talents....who knows where they may take you. That website that no one looked at got me standing in the middle of Royal Ascot Race Course as the Queen rolled past within touching distance.
That's all for this week, I'll be back with another lyric with advice in it next week. Until then. Stay safe, stay well and explore your skills.
