The Listowel Wrenboys is an old tradition but still a strong tradition at the Listowel races and part of the listowel harvest festival. Song Irish Dancing, storytelling and Irish music make it a great night and a great competition.
Music by Steve Cooney and Seamus Begley
The tradition consists of "hunting" a fake wren and putting it on top of a decorated pole. Then the crowds of mummers, or strawboys, celebrate the wren (also pronounced wran)[1] by dressing up in masks, straw suits, and colourful motley clothing. They form music bands and parade through towns and villages. These crowds are sometimes called wrenboys
