(25 Oct 2015) Slovenia saw the arrival of thousands of migrants and refugees again on Sunday, while European leaders held an emergency summit in Brussels to find ways of easing the plight of those caught up in the continent's greatest immigration crisis in decades.
A temporary reception centre in Gruskovje, some 100 kilometres (62 miles) from Slovenia's border with Austria, filled within an hour as 11 buses carrying migrants and refugees travelling from Croatia arrived in quick succession.
They were driven by bus straight from Croatia to a fenced off tent settlement, on the Slovenian side of the border, with UNHCR Arabic interpreters at hand to help with communication.
New arrivals were guarded by Slovenian soldiers and searched by police before registration.
Once registered, they are allowed to continue their journey towards Austria.
The so-called Balkan migrant route switched to Slovenia a week ago when Hungary closed its border with Croatia, forcing the tide to move.
Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar said Sunday more than 60,000 people had arrived in Slovenia over the last 10 days, many of them through Croatia.
