BMW Drivetrain Malfunction: Causes And Solutions Explained. In this video I will talk about BMW drivetrain malfunction.
Here’s what causes it:
Damaged or worn-out drivetrain components
Other than getting a ‘Drivetrain Drive Moderately’ error on your screen, some other signs that indicate you may have a drivetrain malfunction include:
• The engine is stalling as you try to start the car.
• Your car will automatically lower its speed to a reduced engine speed limit mode.
• Car shaking or vibrating.
• The transmission gets stuck in one gear.
• Too much smoke emitting from the exhaust pipe.
Some drivetrain components include spark plugs and the ignition coil. Damaged spark plugs or ignition coils can cause engine misfires, which lead to inefficient performance because spark plugs are essential for igniting fuel in the combustion chamber.
The ignition coils and spark plugs work together to keep the engine running smoothly. When an ignition coil is damaged or worn out, it generates less power, resulting in weaker sparks that fail to ensure proper combustion.
When your BMW experiences symptoms like power loss, misfiring when the car starts, or rough idling, it is a clear indication that the spark plug or ignition coil is the cause of the drivetrain malfunction.
Failed high-pressure fuel pump
High-pressure fuel pumps transfer fuel from the tank to the engine by compressing it and creating high-pressure fuel lines.
Exhaust system issues
When the BMW's catalytic converter gets clogged, it leads to back pressure, which then causes the engine to operate at less-than-optimal levels.
Here are the solutions to try:
Restart your car
When the drivetrain malfunction warning message appears on your dashboard, it is recommended that you find a safe place to stop and turn off your engine for 5 to 10 minutes.
Scan your vehicle
To properly assess the cause of the drivetrain malfunction, you can use your OBD-II scanner once you stop at a safe location. To find out what could be the cause of this malfunction, use the following steps:
• Find the OBD-II diagnostic port under the driver’s dashboard and plug it in.
• Insert the key into the ignition to turn it on, but don’t turn the engine on.
• On the scanner, choose the model of your vehicle.
• Read the trouble codes to pinpoint your car’s exact issues.
Repair or replace faulty parts
Having a qualified professional assess what may be wrong with your car is the best course of action. Once your car is checked by a professional, they will give you an option of either repairing or replacing certain parts that may have been causing the drivetrain malfunction.nents are in good working condition.
