Since Euro 2024 is about to begin, it only makes sense to look back at one of the greatest football related adverts of all time, made by Nike for Euro 2008.
It follows the POV of a footballer. We open the ad with us laying down on the floor, looking up at the referee booking a player for what is presumably a bad tackle, and giving a free kick. Our player takes the free kick and scores from it, celebrating with the team. Upon the end of the match, one of our teammates spots that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is on the sidelines. We then cut to see that our player has had a call up to sign for the gunners. He gets brought on as a substitute for Arsenal against Manchester United at Old Trafford, where we come face to face with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, and a young Cristiano Ronaldo. Upon defeat at Old Trafford, we being working ourself harder and harder. We then manage to score against Atletico Madrid at the Emirates. We then cut to walking past paparazzi with our girlfriend, giving them signatures, and even signing another woman's breasts right in front of our girlfriend (which I can't imagine went down too well). We then ditch her completely for more risqué activities with another woman in a pool. We then cut to a game against Inter Milan at home, in which Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Inter's striker at the time) scores against us, which prompts us once again to train harder and harder. We then upgrade our old car to a Spyker C8 (a Dutch supercar from the mid 2000s) and show our family, with whom we have a nice reunion with. We then cut to a Champions League match against a prime Barcelona side at the Camp Nou, a Barcelona side featuring the likes of Ronaldinho, who we see performing his typical trickster crazy skills. Unfortunately, we lose the match. We then cut to us once again training hard, before we cut to us walking out for the Netherlands national team to play against Portugal. We then get slide tackled by Manuel Fernandes*** and are given a free kick, in the exact same way that we were at the start. As we take it, the ad cuts to black, with text saying "Take it to the next level".
We absolutely need more ads like this nowadays. No question about it.
