Thousands of African troops fought bravely for France during World War I and World War II, as well as France's colonial wars in Indochina and Algeria, but many people remain unaware of their sacrifice. Senegalese tirailleurs, or sharpshooters in English, were disbanded as a force in the 1960s and just 39 remain alive today. They only gained French nationality in 2016. That gave them the right to a state pension, but they had to stay in France for six months a year. Now, after years of administrative hurdles, the French government has agreed to let them return home to Africa and still receive their pension. Our reporter Julien Sauvaget has been to meet three former Senegalese sharpshooters near Paris.
