Mark Lee and Paul O'Malley from Heywood Fire Station near Rochdale relive the moment when youths targetted their fire engine.
Shocking CCTV footage released by Great Manchester Fire and Rescue Service shows the moment a group of youths attacked a fire engine crew as they left the scene of an incident.
Two of the firemen involved told how the gang began to assault them as they were packing up their equipment.
As they reversed their fire engine away, a video camera inside the cab captured the moment one youth hurled a brick at them, cracking the the windscreen of the vehicle.
"Nobody comes to work and expects to be attacked with bricks and stones, so it was quite a frightening situation," said fireman Mark Lee.
