ABSTRACT
Many engineers promoted to #leadership take time to build skills in #PeopleManagement and are given little in the way of guidelines. There is no tech best-practice for how to #hire, review performance, grow careers or promote. We do the best with what we have, but this inexperience can quickly lead to reinforcing old #biases and low belonging for those in underrepresented groups, halting their career progress.
In this talk, Michelle recounts her journey and challenges of building a successful tech career from the “out-group” and what she has learned about creating a space where everyone can thrive.
