You cannot think of Kolkata without these four-five days of the year, no way............we bet on that. Religious ritual or festival may not to be too unusual, unique or typical to any particular community in the world, but Durga Puja is, especially for quintessentially Bengalis, domicile Bengalis and even outsiders who love this city.
At home, at hotels and restaurants, on the streets, at the pandals—on display are the true artistic, culinary acumen, on one hand and true colour and spirit of Bengalis, on the other. These four-five days are for indulging in sartorial luxury, gastronomical longings, no-holds-bar friendship and the luxury of being oblivious of the problems all around us.
Having to be out of home or out of town during these Durga Puja days, would arguably be one thing that one would miss the most. With thematically and artistically designed pandals, spectacular idols—each one being different from the other and dazzling lightings the whole city gets bedecked wonderfully well and wears a completely new look.
It's truly traditional & ethnic and yet majestically modern.
If for some reasons, you are not being able to shuttle between pandals and hope from one to another, no regrets this time. Here's Calcalling, capturing the some of the best pandals, best idols and best moments of pandal hopping for you. We promise we'll make you feel the pulse of Kolkata. HAPPY PANDAL HOPPING!
