This, I have now discovered is a well known issue with the Yaesu FRG-8800 and can be quite serious. The problem occurred this morning whilst recording Channel Africa on 5980 KHz at 04:00 hrs BST (17/09/15). Completely lost all audio and the display! After searching the internet I came to the conclusion that a fix appeared to require checking the PLL chip and changing a resistor. Then I remembered the manual mentioned potential locking up of the processor and after switching the unit off, removing the mains lead and one of the memory AA batteries for a couple of minutes, I managed to resolve the problem. Phew!!!!
