During the last few years, nature-based solutions (NBS) have gained a lot of attention in the International community, as well as in Estonia. The use of NBS in urban areas is often significantly more cost-effective than building large-scale technical systems on their own, and the benefits of using them range from protection of biodiversity to climate change adaptation.
The main goal of this seminar is to raise awareness on how the use of NBS in urban areas can bring great benefits to both people and the environment and show where the implementation of NBS has already worked.
Topics covered and discussed:
• the importance of nature-based solutions;
• practical examples of nature-based solutions;
• importance of biodiversity in urban areas;
• creation, management and monitoring of wetlands;
• project “Putukaväil”;
• project “LIFE UrbanStorm”.
