Last week at Rock Island Auction Company the finest know Winchester 1886 was on display, blurring the line between firearm and art. This Winchester was the bell of the ball, fetching the highest price at this auction, third highest in Rock Island's history, at a cool $1,178,750. The rifle has gold and platinum inlays in the takedown collar and barrel breech along with a walnut piano finish on the stock. It's been impeccably kept in the Mac McCroskie Collection and shows well in near mint condition. This rifle was a product of master engraver John Ulrich, master engraver from the talented family which also bred two other master engravers; Herman and Conrad.
