Axis IP cameras and DVRs support FTP and cloud recording. In this video, we will show you how to configure Axis IP cameras to upload footage to a cloud FTP server.
First, create an account on your FTP server. We will use CameraFTP as an example. For a different FTP server, you just need to change the FTP server name.
Visit CameraFTP.com, sign up for a free trial and then log in, click Add Camera to add a camera. You can then click the Settings icon below the camera thumbnail to find the FTP account info which you will need later.
Now you need to find the camera's IP address. Please make sure your PC and the camera are connected to the same network. You can use the manufacturer's setup program to find the camera's IP address. You can also use CameraFTP's VSS software to find it.
Launch Internet Explorer and connect to the camera at the IP address, then log in. It will ask you to install an ActiveX control. Click Install to install it, then click Setup, it will display the main setup interface. You need to configure the following settings:
(1) Video or image parameters.
For image recording, click Video, then click Video Stream and set the image resolution.
For video recording, click Stream Profiles, it will display the Stream Profile List. Select a profile and click Modify to set the recording parameters.
If you use CameraFTP service, then the parameters should not exceed your service plan parameters.
(2) Motion Detection settings. This step is only required for motion-triggered recording. Click Detectors and then click Motion Detection. Click New, then draw a rectangle area in the video, and set the detection sensitivity by adjusting Object size, History and sensitivity. You can see the detected activity level and the detection threshold. Click Save to save the settings.
(3) FTP settings. Click Events, then click Recipients. Click Add, it will pop up a Recipient Setup window. Enter the FTP account info from the Camera settings page on CameraFTP.com. Click Test to test the FTP connection. If it works, click Ok to save it.
(4) Recurrence Settings.
This step is for continuous recording only. click Events, then click Recurrences. Click Add, it will pop up a "Recurrence Setup" Window. Enter the name "EveryMinute", and set it to repeat every 1 minute. Click Ok to save it.
(5) Action Rules.
Click Events, then click Action Rules. Click Add, it will pop up an "Action Rule Setup" window. For continuous recording, select "Time" as the trigger, then select Recurrence and set it to "EveryMinute".
For motion-triggered recording, select "Detectors" as the trigger, then select Motion Detection.
For video recording, select "Send video clip", then select the stream profile that we edited previously and set the duration.
For image recording, select "Send Images", set the Image Frequency based on your service plan, and set the duration.
Lastly, select the FTP Recipient, and enter the folder name as %Y-%m-%d. Click OK to save it.
That's all. Your camera will upload footage to the FTP server now. You can check the files in the FTP folder to verify whether it is configured correctly.
To view the camera footage, you need to download the files from the FTP server and play them locally. With CameraFTP service, you can install CameraFTP Viewer app for iOS and Android, or simply log in to CameraFTP.com website.
