These eye figurines were excavated from a site known as Tell Brak in Syria. Dating back to the Chalcolithic they were discovered in a building referred to as the eye temple. They were probably votive offerings to an unknown goddess. It's thought the eye temple is the earliest site of organised religion in the region.
