The Distributive Property is the property that states if we multiply a sum by a number, we will get the same result if we multiply each addend by that number and then add the products. We show several ways to show multiplication, X, a dot, and parentheses. We use the Distributive Property to write a sum of two or more numbers as a product of their GCF and a sum of numbers with no common factor. We use grid paper to draw area models to explain. We show several examples of writing the sum of numbers as the product of their GCF and another sum. We show an example of writing the sum of three numbers as the product of their GCF and another sum. We can do the operations on each side of the equal sign to make sure each expression has the same value and to make sure we did it correctly.
