Tensions have risen between the Centre and opposition parties over the inauguration ceremony just days before the new Parliament building opens. On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the new facility, but political tensions in the nation are already high. On Wednesday, a number of opposition parties declared their intention to abstain from the ceremony, arguing that either President Droupadi Murmu or Speaker Om Birla of the Lok Sabha should perform the honours.
