Election results continue to trickle in from Iraq where the latest tally shows Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki''s political coalition leading in the capital and a Shiite province in the south.
Voting took place about a week ago and the final numbers are slow in coming.
So far officials have released partial results from eleven different regions and the prime minister''s party is leading in five of them.
Baghdad accounts for 70 of parliament''s 325 seats and would go a long way toward deciding who will be tasked with forming a government.
It''s not clear exactly what percentage of the votes had been counted so far and officials have not said when they expect all the counting to be done.
Still, al-Maliki is showing signs he will end up the winner and he has already begun meeting with political rivals in early efforts to form a coalition government.
