In Central Africa, Gabon's transitional Prime Minister, Raymond Ndong Sima, has formally introduced the transitional government in a televised address to the nation. Ndong Sima, a 68-year-old economist educated in Paris, previously served as prime minister during President Bongo's administration from 2012 to 2014. However, he later became a vocal critic of the government and even contested against President Bongo in the presidential elections of 2016 and 2023.
During his inaugural speech, President Oligui made a solemn commitment to organize fair, transparent, and credible elections as part of the transition process to restore civilian rule. Although he didn't specify a precise timeline for these elections, his administration is dedicated to ensuring they take place in due course.
Furthermore, President Oligui announced plans to formulate a new constitution collaboratively, involving representatives from various key groups within the nation. This constitution will be designed with a stronger emphasis on democratic principles and human rights. Ultimately, it will be subject to a referendum to ensure that it reflects the will and aspirations of the Gabonese people. This signifies a significant step toward a more democratic and inclusive governance system for Gabon.
