It goes without saying that working with electricity has it's risks, it's odorless, colourless and is basically invisible to the naked eye. An old spark once described it to me as "Death wrapped up in a world of insulators"
As electricians we deal with such risks every single day and lets be honest, how often do you see some sort of safe isolation being practiced out in the field?
Yeah that's right almost never.
It's something so simple and effective that it could actually save lives. There are many "chancers" out there who won't isolate because "they'll be careful " or too lazy to walk to the van or even tool box and lock the power off before working on it.
I'll be honest I don't do it nearly enough as I should, especially when working alone. I'll just switch off and prove dead. Obviously every situation is different. We strive for a higher standard and don't cut corners when it comes to health and safety. Time IS money but no amount of money ever bought a second of time (Howard Stark). Don't let someone else's crap attitude or work ethics distract you and lower your standards.
