Hi, I'm Karen Wilding, founder and director at EYMaths.
I started life, like so many of you, hating maths and failing at every stage.
It was only in my thirties, as the result of attending some great training as a teacher myself, that I realised it wasn't maths, or me, it was just the way I had been taught.
This was a truly life-changing revelation. Since then, I've passionately pursued a quest to build my own maths subject knowledge, teach maths in ways that are meaningful and connected, research how the brain learns and makes sense of this amazing subject so I can pass this knowledge on to others.
Join me at the LPDS EYFS conference in Preston where I will be delivering two keynote sessions on:
Number Sense: ‘Why Teaching Counting First Will STOP Your Children Developing ‘Essential Number Sense’: What we need to be doing instead!’
Mark-Making: ‘Why Mark-Making is in Decline in Early Years Settings: Understanding the impact of this on their wider development and what we can do to make immediate changes’
Alongside me on the day will be the wonderful Andrew Taylor, LPDS Maths Consultant looking at maths in continuous provision and daily routines.
The marketplace will also have several stalls including input from Whitefield Infant School in Nelson on maths in their setting including the role of the adult.
