Most homeowners are so excited about getting their solar systems up and running and eliminating their energy bill. What most homeowners don’t realize is that if they use more electricity than their solar systems were designed for, they will have to pay for electricity not covered by solar. This will reflect in your true-up bill, resulting in the thought left in a homeowners mind, “I wish I had gotten more solar panels!” The thing is that even if you do want to get more solar panels to eliminate the electricity bill after solar installation, you have to make sure you have enough roof space and are willing to go through another solar installation to truly get rid of the true up solar bill. Because getting an electricity bill after solar installation is not fun. Most utility companies, like PG&E, SDGE and SCE, they put you on TOU or Time Of Use billing and net metering for solar power is based on time of use. Pacific Gas and Electric NEM Charges, as well as SDGE and SCE NEM charges are settled up on an annual basis. So if homeowners don’t understand how to monitor solar production and keep track of their solar true up on an ongoing basis, they will be hit with an electricity bill after solar is installed and it’s a lump sum payment for electricity used over 12 months.

Please keep in mind that you may likely be faced with an electricity bill or a pge true up, sce true up or sdge true up if you bought a home with existing solar on it.
