Abstract:
The future is polyglot where programmers freely choose the programming language that best fits their current task. GraalVM is a new universal virtual machine that enables such a future by executing a wide range of programming languages including JavaScript, Java, Python, Ruby, R, C/C++, and Rust. We integrated GraalVM with the Node.js platform and have recently published a release candidate that enables running polyglot Node.js applications!
Bio:
Thomas Wuerthinger is a Senior Research Director at Oracle Labs leading programming language implementation teams for languages including Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, and R. He is the architect of the GraalVM polyglot runtime. Previously, he worked on the V8 JavaScript engine at Google, and the Maxine research virtual machine at Sun Microsystems. He received a PhD degree from JKU Linz for his research about dynamic code evolution
