I bought a RED Epic-X Dragon 6K... used. For a steal!

Did I get completely stoked about getting this camera, absolutely!! I have dreamed of getting a RED since getting into filmmaking. But I can safely say I didn’t get a RED just because I was excited about getting a RED.

In order for you to understand why I made this investment we have to back up a bit.

What do I mainly shoot? I have 3 main niches I am focused on.
Weddings, Commercials, and Real estate.

With that being said, my canon R and 1DXii are PERFECT for shooting Weddings, and Real estate [for most of the houses I shoot]

So that’s solid I’m set right? Well kinda.

Most of the work I have been doing in the commercial field has been small businesses. Small businesses that don’t have super big budgets to hire large production companies or really high-end DP’s. I wanted to start working on campaigns for these larger companies with bigger budgets.

So I was basically in a chicken and egg situation. Which comes first?

This is the conclusion I drew after much thinking. I needed to get a USED entry level cinema camera [wasn’t really interested in the Blackmagic Pocket 6K], and bc I would be getting it used I was planning to get a great camera, spending between 3-5k.

Honestly I wasn’t even considering getting a RED bc I figured it would be waaaay out of my budget. Then I found mpb .com
