Today on our 1999 Ford Ranger, we'll install the custom fit vehicle wiring harness 4-pole connector, part number 118241. To begin our install, we'll first need to locate the manufacturer's tow port. For this application, it's behind the bumper here on the driver's side. To gain access to it, we'll just take a trim panel tool or flat blade screwdriver and pry the connector free from the secured point behind the bumper. Then once we have access to the connector, we'll need to remove the weather cap. To do that, we'll press in the locking tab and pull it out from the connector.

We'll go ahead and check the mating surface to make sure it's clean and free from any dirt, dust, or corrosion buildup. Once we've done that, I recommend to use some Dielectric Grease on this connection point. We'll be using the Edelman Dielectric Grease, part number 11755. Now with our Dielectric Grease on and the connector ready, we'll go ahead and plug in the new tow-ready harness. We'll make sure we firmly press it into place, and that it locks into position.

We'll also secure the 4-pole harness here to the hitch, and now we're ready to secure our wiring harness. Using some black zip ties, we'll go ahead and secure the connector and wiring behind the bumper, and then we'll go ahead and cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look. Now that we've completed installing our new 4-pole harness, we'll go ahead and check it with a test light. To do that, we'll take the ground clamp and put it on the ground stud of the 4-pole connector, which will test the ground circuit, and then we'll run through the lighting sequence, checking the running, left blinker, right blinker, and brake connection points. And with that done, this will complete our installation and testing of the tow-ready custom fit vehicle wiring 4-pole connector, part number 118241, on our 1999 Ford Ranger..
