It went all too fast? You want the details? No problem.
Here are our recommendations in order of appearance:
00:07 Archipelago Trail
The Archipelago’s over 20.000 islands make for unforgettable bike tours. The famous Archipelago Trail starts in Turku. We drove up to Nauvo and then rented some bikes at the lovely B&B Västergård.
00:10 Gustavsvärn
Scenic boat trips from Hanko take you to numerous lighthouses. We opted for Finland’s highest one – Bengtskär. But as the sea was too rough that day, we went to Gustavsvärn instead. A really pretty alternative.
00:12 Jokikatu, Porvoo
One of the prettiest towns of the area is certainly Porvoo. We enjoyed exploring its historic centre and having a coffe in one of the occasional hipster cafés.
00:15 Turku Castle
They say it’s the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. And we are glad it did, as it is a nice change to the Brutalist architecture that defines lots of Finland’s cities.
00:19 Torpetin rantasauna Mökki
Chopping wood, making a fire and relaxing in the sauna. A holiday in the Archipelago isn’t complete without a stay in one of the traditional weekend cottages. Our pick: [ Ссылка ]
00:21 Outdoor Happiness Canoes, Hanko
There are plenty of sports you can choose from around Hanko. We loved the canoeing and speeding down the beaches on e-bikes. More: [ Ссылка ]
00:24 Hangon Casino, Hanko
Beware! The Hangon Casino isn’t really a casino, but a great restaurant and a perfect example for the exciting architecture of this pretty town.
00:26 Hauensuoli, Hanko
This narrow strait can be reached on a cruise from Hanko und is nick-named the “Guest Book of the Archipelago”, as many sailors waited out storms here and carved their initials into the rocks.
00:30 Luostarinmäki Museum, Turku
Imagine a mall of the 18th century – open-air. It’s a great shopping back in time, with vendours dressed in traditional costumes.
00:32 Suomen Joutsen, Forum Marinum
This impressive full rigged ship is part of the Forum Marinum museum in Turku, a must-see for nautic buffs.
00:34 St. Henry’s Art Chapel, Turku
Probably the most stylish chapel we have ever seen. Hidden in the outskirts of Turku, it looks like a sunken ship from the outside, and from the inside, it’s a symmetrical wonder!
00:36 Flow Park, Turku
This adventure park is more than a high ropes course. The difficulty of the trails can be insane, but that makes it so much fun.
00:41 Moomin World, Naantali
You don’t know the Moomins? Better get educated in this lovely little theme park about Finland’s answer to Mickey Mouse. Get some pancakes and hug those fluffy hippos!
00:44 Moose Safari, Helsinki Area
Moose safaris are fun! The very sympathetic und knowledgable guide Joni Valkila took us to his secret spot where you can regularly spot those huge and quirky creatures. More: [ Ссылка ]
00:46 Di Trevi, Turku
If you love eating, you have to get the Food Walk Card in Turku! It allows you to pick 5 out of 10 restaurants to start your tasting tour. More: [ Ссылка ]
00:49 Hangon Casino, Hanko
Finns in this area love their crayfish, and the Hangon Casino is famous for it. Make sure you are not too hungry, because it takes time and lots of crayfish to fill up a slice of toast.
00:53 Hanko Beach, Hanko
Yes, they do have beaches. Hanko’s most famous one has very instagrammy little huts and a very strange carousel in the middle of the sea. One for your “weird things to do” bucket list.
00:56 Itämeren Portti, Hanko
Finns love saunas. No surprise. But these are exceptional! A small ferry brings you out to the guest harbour of Hanko where they built some beautiful cabins with gangways directly into the sea.
01:03 Låna Boats, Turku
The most relaxing way of exploring Turku are these small electric boats on the river Aura. Take a picnic basket with you or buy some snacks on the pier and off you go!
01:04 Panimoravintola Koulu, Smör, Ravintolalaiva Donna, Turku
Great dining in Turku! The first two can also be booked with the Food Walk card, the Koulu serving typical Finnish sausages and Smör being the haute cuisine star of Turku. End your day on the Aura river.
