A Security Council delegation arrived on Tuesday in West Timor to assess the security situation and Indonesian efforts to disarm pro-Jakarta militias.
The U-N mission will also inspect the conditions of several refugee camps in the territory.
The U-N team arrived in West Timor after being in East Timor where they had inspected the conditions in the territory for the elections next year.
In Kupang, West Timor they witnessed the destruction of weapons.
Last month the pro-Jakarta militias surrendered hundreds of old weapons to Indonesian security forces but critics believe they may still have more.
The U-N mission also went to the refugee camp of Noelbaki where they got a firsthand view of the conditions and met refugees.
On Wednesday the group will fly to the border town of Atambua, where militias slaughtered three humanitarian
workers in September.
The humanitarian workers were from America, Ethiopia and a Croatia.
The killings led to the evacuation of all aid workers from the territory and the Security Council and international
community called on Indonesia to disarm the militia gangs.
