Leaders from both sides of the political divide have come out to vote in Bosnia's general election, billed as a showdown between reformers and hardline ethnic nationalists who led the country to war eight years ago.
It's predicted that the reformist Social Democratic Party (SDP) will take nearly 40 per cent of the vote in the Bosnian Federation and win the election.
Preliminary, unofficial results were not expected before Sunday, while the final tally could take weeks.
VOICE-OVER:
0003 The leader of the reformist Social Democratic Party cast his vote in the Bosnian elections in Sarajevo on Saturday.
0011 He said the elections would see an end to the hardline ethnic nationalist parties that had led the country to war eight years ago.
0019 SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I am sure that today Bosnian people will send a clear message to the nationalistic parties who have run this country for ten years, that they have to go to the past, where they belong."
SUPER CAPTION; Zlatko Lagumdzija, Social Democratic Party leader
0029 Also pressing for closer ties with Europe and the West is war-time prime minister Haris Siladjic, now leader of the Party for Bosnia.
0039 He hopes the electorate will endorse change.
0043 SOUNDBITE: (Bosnian) Haris Siladjic, Party for Bosnia leader
0045 I think people will vote to change the Dayton Peace Agreement, he says, because it stopped the war but didn't bring justice.
0053 The wife of Bosnia's number one war crimes suspect, Radovan Karadzic, voted in Pale.
0059 She refused to say whether she had voted for the ultra-nationalist Serb Democratic Party, which her husband once led.
0106 Karadzic's wartime ally and Serb Democratic Party leader, Dragan Kalinic, also voted in Pale.
0113 In Republica Serpska, the only pro-Western party is the Serb People's Democratic Party.
0118 The party's candidate for prime minister, Milorad Dodik, voted in Banja Luca.
0123 SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat) Milorad Dodik, Serb People's Democratic Party leader
0126 He said he believed his party would win and that it was the only one which would bring Bosnia closer to Europe.
0134 International observers monitoring the election say the poll was peaceful and ran smoothly.
0139 It could be weeks before the official result is announced.
