I headed to the UK's Poorest County, Cornwall. Specifically Camborne the poorest town in Cornwall, during the unprecedented cost of living crisis of 2024, what I found seriously shocked me! When you think of Cornwall in the South West of the England, beautiful beaches with golden sand and blue seas come to mind. However what the tourists don't see, is that the county of Cornwall for a long time has been the most deprived and poverty stricken area of the UK. With some of the highest rates of Homelessness, Unemployment and Poverty levels to be found not only in the UK but in Europe also, Cornwall was one of only four areas within the UK that qualified for Poverty grants from the EU to assist with the community, however since Brexit these payments have stopped leaving the councils and other local authorities seriously under funded and unprepared to deal with the desperate fall out from this. I headed to the streets of Camborne to get an idea of the real situation on the streets, what I found truly shocked me... Homeless communities living in makeshift tent camps around the town, unprecedented levels of Crime and unemployment, Piles of Rubbish on the streets, Harrowing stories of Crime and violence from the locals living on the streets during Street Interviews. This is the Cornwall that the Tourists Don't See... Real Life for the residents of one of the UK's Poorest Towns.
