(29 Aug 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned his "Western partners" not to indulge in what he called "fabrications" regarding a possible chemical attack by Syrian forces.
Senior US officials warned the Russian and Syrian governments Tuesday against chemical weapons use in Syria as forces allied with its President Bashar Assad prepare for an offensive on a rebel stronghold.
Speaking during a joint news conference with his Saudi counterpart, Adel Al-Jubeir, in Moscow, Lavrov said the US failed to provide proof the Syrian government was planning a chemical attack in Idlib, and claimed Russia presented "more and more" evidence it was a provocation.
Lavrov also said he hoped "they will not obstruct an anti-terrorist operation in this de-escalation zone (Idlib), aimed against Jabhat al-Nusra."
