(30 Aug 2016) KIX BROOKS TAKES GUAC TIPS FROM BILLY GIBBONS
Country music singer Kix Brooks has learned a lot from ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons.
Brooks, who is most well known for his musical partnership with Ronnie Dunn, is now a wine maker, radio host and author of a new cookbook called "Kickin' It with Kix," which out now.
Brooks said he learned about how to make guacamole while touring with ZZ Top.
"We took a tour with ZZ Top one year and we all took our grills and all this stuff and Saturday was Mexico day. And Billy (Gibbons) would always insist on making the guacamole," Brooks said.
Brooks said Gibbons' recipe was hard to create on the road.
"Billy was very meticulous about what ingredients went in. And always fresh cilantro. And I'm like, 'Come on Billy,'" Brooks said.
"We would send runners - they would have to go for miles sometimes to get the ingredients, especially fresh cilantro."
"I came to realize how important it was," he admitted. "And those little things, it's the same way with wine making - those little things that separate good from great, you know? And guac is fun and you can use it for everything from fajitas to chips."
"Kickin' It with Kix" is out now.
