"We're here on opening day of the Winter Olympics, because the worst thing that's happening in the United States of America is poverty, hunger and homelessness. So we want to make sure that all the reporters that are coming into town aren't just talking about bobsledding and increased security for the Winter Olympics, but they're talking about the real violence in the United States of America and the fact that people are struggling for some place to eat, some place to sleep and health care."

13. SOUNDBITE: (English) Rocky Andrews, Salt Lake City Mayor.
"Well in terms of security I don't think it's actually any different from what you would experience at any other Olympics anywhere else, except maybe more of it....more troops, more....I hope we have more magnetometers that people can move through more quickly, perhaps with the wands they're searching a little more intensely than they have in the past. It's not only something that people would expect but it's the scope of security that I believe most people would desire."
