Some insights on Class II elastics
After achieving distalization with the elastics, it’s crucial not to remove them abruptly. Discontinuing them suddenly can significantly increase the likelihood of relapse due to the stretched state of the periodontal ligament fibers. Additionally, the bone cortex on the tension side has not yet remodeled, which will also play a crucial role in relapse.
Another important aspect of using these elastics is their potential to prevent upper teeth anchorage loss caused by the rowboat effect. In such scenarios, employing Class II vector elastics can enhance stability. Orthodontic treatment should always be proactive in anticipating side effects and optimizing the mechanical process.
