Lynbrook, NY: Lynbrook is a village in Hempstead Township, Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York, United States. The population at the 2010 census was 19,416.The area currently known as Lynbrook has other names including Rechquaakie (formerly known), Parsons Corners and Bloomfield.It was later named Pearsall’s Corners, after Mr. Pearsall’s General Store, which became a famous stopover for travelers from New York City to Long Island. Alternatively, it was called Five Corners because the stagecoach stopped at the intersection of Hempstead Avenue, Merrick Road and Broadway.It became known as Lynbrook in 1894 and the village was incorporated in 1911.
The name Lynbrook was derived by breaking up Brooklyn into several syllables and transposing them, a nod to the former homes of the city’s many turn-of-the-century residents.Lynbrook has been with the Lynbrook Police Department since 1912.
