In 2019, Julana and her husband adopted an adorable pup named Willie Nelson.
They were eager to know Willie better and decided to get a dog DNA test that could tell them if he was at risk for genetic health conditions, along with breed information and more.
First, the breed results came in. Julana and her husband thought Willie was a German Shepherd, but when they watched his breed reveal video, they learned he’s a delightful mix of seven breeds!
Next up, the health results. The Embark Breed + Health DNA test revealed some vital health information: Willie has a genetic health condition called Cystinuria Type II-A that puts him at risk for kidney and bladder stones as he ages.
Julana talked to an Embark veterinarian to learn more and shared the results with Willie’s vet to learn how to care for a dog with this condition. By monitoring Willie for symptoms and adjusting his diet, she’s doing all she can to prevent stone removal surgery as he ages. Taking these preventative measures could help prevent future medical procedures.
Willie Nelson is currently living his best life and his dog parents couldn’t be happier for it.
