Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for agreeing to hold the first meeting on inter-state border dispute in Shillong. He termed the meeting as ‘historic’ as he opined that the visit of Assam Chief Minister to Meghalaya will send a very positive message for both the States.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that delay in resolving the issue has led to problems in the inter-state border area, and there were many instance of violence as well. He said that Assam Chief Minister has shown keen interest in resolving the issue and both the State has agreed to work out an amicable solution.
He said that resolving the issue is not simple and it will require multiple consultations. He said that local issues, history and the factual data will be considered to move forward to find a practical and acceptable solution.
He also said that in the second meeting to be held in Guwahati more factual data will be discussed. He further also said that union home minister Amit Shah is very keen to resolve the inter-state border dispute and both the States are moving ahead in a very positive manner.
