Hello, my friends! If you want to like, comment, share or subscribe I'll be very happy!
With this video I take you with me to a splendid location in my region, Lombardy and precisely to Nesso, a picturesque village on the right bank of the western branch of Lake Como.
It is located in the middle of what was called Strada Regia, a half-coast road formerly formed by mule tracks that used to connect Bellagio to Como.
This route still exists and can be traveled more comfortably as a splendid trail around the lake with a length of about 35 km. and, of course, the view you can enjoy along the way is absolutely breathtaking.
But Nesso is best known above all for its "Orrido", that is to say a canyon, a natural gorge carved into the rock by the impetuosity of the Tuf and Nosè streams which join together to form the famous waterfall, which reaches 200 meters at its highest point.
The waterfall can be admired either from a panoramic point visible from the main road once you arrive in Nesso, or by walking along the 340 steps that slope down towards the lake through the town, divided in two by the waterfall.
The loudest or quietest water sound always accompanies the visitor wherever he is in the village.
At the end of the descent you are faced with a truly breathtaking view.
The charm of Lake Como is the spectacular setting for the Ponte della Civera, a stone bridge of ancient origin, probably Romanesque, from which you can admire the waterfall in all its beauty and might, before the waters flow into the lake. What an incredible show of nature!!
This extraordinary corner of the village of Nesso was even taken up in the first film shot by Alfred Hitchcock in 1925 entitled "The pleasure garden" (Il labirinto delle passioni).
Out of curiosity you can look for it on YT as I did and you will recognize it!
But Nesso was also mentioned in Leonardo Da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus.
The Italian genius spoke of it in these terms: "Nesso: land where a river falls with a great rush into a huge crack in the mountain". "Nesso: terra dove cade uno fiume con grande empito per una grandissima fessura di monte".
After a visit to the waterfall, absolutely a must do, you can stroll through the streets of the charming and picturesque village, even through a walk that runs along the lake from above.
From there, we reach the beautiful Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
But another surprise awaits you in Nesso. This location is a constant source of beauty, to be honest!
After traveling a small stretch of the Strada Regia, we turned towards the Piani di Nesso, meeting another splendid stone bridge of Roman origin, the bridge over the Nosè stream and right here we found a splendid place where you can relax with the sound of water in the background enjoying the wonderful surrounding greenery.
A truly peaceful place. If you want, you can also bathe in that spot of clean water, but the temperature was quite cold!
We then traveled a stretch of the Nosè River Valley, a path immersed in nature that leads up to Monte Palanzone also meeting the well-known Masera Cave, which can be visited with the guide, a karst phenomenon of great importance, with small waterfalls, tunnels, and a huge room.
Maybe we'll go back to get there! I think it's really worth it!
My friends, if you find yourself in this wonderful stretch of Lake Como, one of the most beautiful places in Italy, I really invite you to visit Nesso.
It will leave you with truly wonderful memories. I'm sure!
