Professor Stig Munk-Nielsen from the department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University presents his invention called PN-Cell based converters.
The PN-Cell Converter can replace existing 3-level converters with a simpler circuit and introduces a non-transformer based DC to AC conversion with voltage gain: e.g.. 6.5 kV DC to 33kV AC.
It can replace bulky inverter + transformer solutions.
The proposed circuit is flexible and are expected to be used in marine, renewable energy and grid applications.
